Jason Vernier grew up in Fishers when it was a much smaller community.

“I remember when I could ride my bike down 116th Street, and Hague Road was all gravel,” he said.

Vernier, a 1993 Hamilton Southeastern High School graduate, spent a year at Indiana State University and then joined the U.S. Navy.

“I decided to join the navy to see the world and, boy, did I see the world,” Vernier said.

Vernier spent 22 years as a naval hospital corpsman.

“I only had been home maybe a half-dozen times. I decided to retire and move back home and start a WIN Home Inspection franchise,” said Vernier, who lives with his family in Noblesville. “What better place to start a business than back home.”

Vernier, 41, officially opened WIN Fishers in September, which covers Fishers, Carmel and the rest of the Hamilton County and parts of Marion County.

Vernier was deployed on aircraft carriers for the first half of his naval career. He then spent time with U.S. Marine Corps units in airborne casualty and evacuation. Vernier did three tours in Iraq.

“Toward the end of my career, I shifted gears from casualty and evacuation and got into safety, doing inspections for the aviation community,” Vernier said. “It was a natural transition to switch gears and go into residential home inspections.”

His father, Vaughn, has gone into business with him, helping with the books.

“Right now, it’s just he and I, but I’d like to have five employees in five years,” Vernier said. “I’d like to add an employee a year as our business grows. It’s a fantastic industry. I not only get to check out new homes, but I get to welcome new folks into the community and reconnect with old folks in the community.”

Vernier’s wife, Christine, is a pharmacy technician at Riverview Hospital. They have three children.

WIN Home Inspection has been operating for more than 20 years and has more than 150 franchises.

Vernier said the inspection mission is to provide clear, concise insight into the state of the home, along with providing the necessary information in an understandable way.
