Studies of the benefits of massage demonstrate that massage is an effective treatment for reducing stress, pain and muscle tension.  Massage also is helpful for the treatment of anxiety, fibromyalgia, headaches, insomnia related to stress, myofascial pain syndrome, soft tissue strains or injuries, sports injuries and temporomandibular joint pain.

There are different types of massage recommended:

  • Deep Tissue Massage is commonly used for more focused pain relief.  Deep tissue massage is a deeper, more intense massage. This technique uses slow, deep guided strokes and firm pressure designed to relieve severe tension and reach below the superficial muscles. It is often recommended for individuals who experience consistent pain and soreness in both large and small muscle groups.
  • Hot Stone Massage is a form of massage therapy that follows the same principles of Swedish massage with the addition of heated stones, which helps lead to deep relaxation. Adding heat to specific areas on the body enhances the feelings of relaxation and peace. Recommended in particular for individuals suffering from fibromyalgia, arthritis or other chronic pain. The penetrating affect of the heated stone allows the massage to be delivered without excessive pressure.

Hand and Stone Massage and Facial Spa at Clay Terrace offers customizable massage services for a number of different massage types, including Swedish, deep tissue, sports, trigger point and prenatal massage. Whether you just need a day of rejuvenation from everyday stresses or have a specific problem or pain that can be alleviated with massage, expert therapists can help you better.
