In 2012, Jerry Sandusky was found guilty of sexually abusing young boys and sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison. Matthew Sandusky said he experienced abuse by his adopted father between the ages of 8 and 17.

“He has turned that experience as a survivor into starting his own agency called Peaceful Hearts Foundation. He is speaking to us about the grooming process by abusers and survival,” said Brady Powers, Chaucie’s Place director of programs.

Chaucie’s Place is a child advocacy organization that focuses on the prevention of child sexual abuse and youth suicide. The annual breakfast is held in conjunction with Child Abuse Prevention Month. The 2017 event will feature a few changes.

“We will be having a hot breakfast this year. Before we had a continental breakfast,” Powers said. “We are trying to make small tweaks, because it’s an amazing opportunity for the community to hear about us.”

The event will start with breakfast followed by a presentation discussing what Chaucie’s Place does for the community. Sandusky will speak after the presentation.

“We do a state of the center address. We talk about the agency and the programs we do. The dollars raised go back into our programs. We’re very focused and driven by our servitude to the community. We use them to reach out about prevention,” Powers said.

The cost to attend is $20 per person or $250 for a table sponsorship. Guests can purchase tickets by visiting chauciesplace.org. Those interested should RSVP by April 19.
