The 15th annual Z-Run is set for April 29 to benefit students and teachers at Zionsville Middle School. The 5K Run and 1 mile Family Fun Walk will start at 9 a.m. at the school, 900 Ford Rd. Registration begins at 7:45 a.m. Entire families, including pets, are encouraged to attend.

The ZMS PTO organizes the event as a fundraiser. The PTO typically awards classroom grants in the fall, but this year it plans to incorporate a spring grant cycle.

“It can go to any various projects within the school. We don’t know what we’re going to get because this hasn’t been done before. If we don’t get any applications for grants, it will go back to the school in some way, whether that be student appreciation, staff appreciation or any of our grade-level parties,” ZMS PTO President Amy Hartwig said. “Sometimes we supplement the school food drive with monetary gift cards the PTO will purchase for families in need within our school district. The money stays within the ZMS students or staff.”

Prizes will be awarded for top male and female finishers in several age brackets. Door prizes also will be awarded to those who participate in the 1-mile walk.

“The awards get announced as those first-round people start coming back. Typically around 10 a.m. we’re all done and out the door. It’s a pretty short, fun 5K,” Hartwig said.

Main sponsor Orangetheory will help kick off the event and lead participants through stretching before the race.

“Depending on weather, the stretching could be inside or outside,” Hartwig said. “In past years we’ve had rain, so this event has to be very flexible.”

The cost to register is $25 per person for the 5K run. Group/family fee is $25 each for first two and $20 for each additional entry. For more, visit tuxbro.com.
