Letter: Not running as it should

Editor,

My mother-in-law is 99 years old, and still lives in the Carmel house they built in 1951. On Saturday, April 22, my husband needed to get to her home to help install a much needed air conditioner. Unfortunately, that was the same day as the Carmel Marathon, which is seemingly able to shut down an entire city.

On Friday evening we consulted the marathon website and called the Carmel police to confirm our road closure findings. The person he spoke to on the phone assured him he could get through so long as arrived before 7:50 a.m. At 7:45 he was turned away even after explaining to the officer what we had found and that his destination was less than half mile down the empty road.

So much for the best city accolades!
