A natural gas leak occurred June 1 after crews working on a new roundabout at City Center and W. Carmel drives accidentally struck a gas pipe near a MISO Energy facility, the company’s media communications advisor Mark Adrian Brown said.

MISO employees were instructed to stay inside the building and refrain from starting any vehicles while the gas company and Carmel Fire Dept. were in transit.

Brown said MISO worked with the fire department to contain the gas leak and ensure that it no longer presented a safety threat.

“Working with the Carmel Fire Dept., MISO took appropriate steps to protect the health and safety of personnel at our site and to ensure continuity of all operations,” Brown stated in an email.

MISO employees resumed normal business operations June 2 and were encouraged to use caution and obey traffic control devices in the area.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation during this event,” Brown said.
