Along with working at Marsh, walking 5K races and caring for her rescue dog, Sarah Laffoon spends much of her time working at Noah’s Ark Preschool in the education wing of Zionsville Presbyterian Church where she was recently honored for 20 years of service.

“I enjoy being here and enjoy going to church,” she said. “I’ve been growing closer to the Lord, which is good.”

Laffoon is from Madisonville, Ky., but moved to Zionsville with her family when her dad got a job here selling cars. She joined the church during her junior year of high school.

Laffoon, 45, has been working at Noah’s Ark since 1997. As a teacher, she cares for the 12- to 18-month-old children. She said she gets to hang out, play and watch over them.

Last month, Laffoon received an award for 20 years at Noah’s Ark during the 25th Anniversary Spring Singing Concert. Although she didn’t accept it in front of the crowd because she was caring for children in the church’s crying room, she said it’s wonderful to be able to hold that award now.

She also has been working as a bagger at Marsh for 23 years. Laffoon said it was difficult not knowing the fate of the store as many other Marsh stores recently announced that they would be closing.

Besides working, Laffoon has walked the Finish Line 500 Festival 5K for the last eight years. She tries to improve and beat her time each year.

During the summer, Laffoon attends Camp Marc in Dover, Tenn., with her best friend, Buffy Turner. Camp Marc is a weeklong event for individuals with disabilities to enjoy a typical summer camp experience full of boating, arts and crafts, sports, music and more. Laffoon has gone to summer camp every year since she was eight years old.
