“The ride route changes every year so we can show off the curvy and scenic roads of Boone County while driving through as many of our towns as possible.  It’s a great way to show off Boone County to non-residents, and even existing residents say they have ridden roads they didn’t know existed,” said Susan Austin of the Humane Society. “We have one comfort stop, and those who need a splash of gas can grab some, and we finish up the day about 1:30 p.m. at the Whitestown Municipal Gym where volunteers have the room ready for food, fun and the auctions.”

Last year, only two riders participated because of heavy rain, but 60 people attended the after-party. The fundraiser still raised $17,400 after expenses. This year, Austin hopes for 100-plus riders.

“And with even more passengers on the back of those bikes, my goal is to raise $25,000,” Austin said. “Haven’t hit it yet, but it remains my goal.”

The money raised supports operations in the shelter building. And because the organization is run exclusively by volunteers, all proceeds help the animals either with medical care, vaccinations, spay/neuter and maintaining the shelter.

Because not everyone is a motorcycle rider, anyone who wants to come out to support is able to attend the after-party for $20. It will include lunch catered by LA Café and  silent and live auctions, which will feature  wine baskets, Colts items, gift cards, gift certificates, Harley Davidson items, growlers and more.

“The community really steps up their donations for our auctions and we appreciate their on-going support,” Austin said.

Riders and non-riders can register online at boonecountyhumane.org/paws–claws-ride-for-rescues.html.  The registration fee is $25 for a single bike or $40 for a couple. The first 100 to register by Aug. 1 receive an event T-shirt and a rider goody bag.  Those who don’t pre-register can pay online until Aug. 10 or pay at the door.
