Zionsville Town Council budget vote delayed on technicality

The Zionsville Town Council expected to vote on its 2018 budget at its meeting Oct. 23, but because of a technicality the vote has been delayed.

Deputy Mayor Ed Mitro told the council that the Department of Local Government Finance alerted him that a legal notice advertising public hearings for the budget incorrectly listed Oct. 16 as the date of the second public hearing. Because that fell during fall break, the council announced at its Oct. 2 meeting that the second public hearing would take place Oct. 23 instead.

The DLGF, however, said that the printed legal notice trumped the public announcement, making the council unable to vote on the matter Oct. 23.

The council has set the final reading on the budget for 7:30 a.m. Oct. 30. The meeting will take place at Town Hall, 1100 W. Oak St.
