The state-of-the-art Tom Wood Toyota dealership in Zionsville is nearing completion.

The 35,000-square foot dealership is expected to open Jan. 22, said J.R. White, one of the sales managers.

“They’re just doing final little punch-list items,” White said. “We’re getting all the furniture put in and we should be moving the weekend of Jan. 19, 20 and 21. By the 22nd, our goal is to have everything in the new store.”

The showroom will be significantly bigger than the Indianapolis location at 4202 Lafayette Rd. It will include a customer lounge, a children’s area and a car wash.

“The current facility we’re in is 40 years old and outdated and not in the greatest neighborhood,” White said. “That’s why we’re moving on up. We want to join the Zionsville community and start up there.”

The dealership, 6406 Crane Dr., will be on 9.8 acres. The site is south of the Cracker Barrel restaurant and just east of I-65.

“We were hoping to be in by Jan. 1, but, obviously, weather and such put a few delays on us,” White said. “It got pushed back a little bit, but that tends to happen with construction.”

White said the inventory will include new Toyota vehicles and a vast selection of used cars.

Tom Wood Automotive Group celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2017. Founder Tom Wood, who died in 2010, bought his first dealership on E. Washington Street in Indianapolis in 1967.

“We’ve been hiring, and we probably will continue to hire as business picks up,” White said. “We expect business to continue to grow, so we’ll have to continue to hire both sales and service staff.”
