Mt. Vernon Community School Corp. Supt. Shane Robbins has been named the superintendent of the Kershaw School District in Camden, S.C.
Robbins resigned May 18, and the school board accepted the resignation at its May 21 meeting. His last day will be effective at the end of his contract, June 30.
The district said the process will begin immediately to replace Robbins, and an interim superintendent will be named by the board at a later date.
The Kershaw School District is located close to the Fort Jackson Army base that Robbins serves simultaneously as the admin chief for the FCC Columbia National Disaster Medical System.
“Dr. Robbins has been very open and honest in this process,” MVCSC School Board President Shannon Walls said. “We support him and his family in this decision, and I’m confident that the MVCSC staff will continue to excel in the vision that was developed under Dr. Robbins’ leadership.”
“This wasn’t necessarily an opportunity I was looking for, but one I am excited about,” Robbins said. “I can sincerely state that it has been the hard work of our amazing staff that has put me in this position. My family and I have been blessed from day one by this community, and there are not enough words to express my appreciation for that. This has been a great experience that will live with me forever.”
Through his tenure at MVCSC, Robbins was awarded the 2017 Superintendent of the Year (Region V) by the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents and also graduated from the National Superintendent’s Academy.
Under his leadership, some district accomplishments included:
- All five schools STEM certified by the Indiana Dept. of Education
- Regained an “A” District status from the IDOE
- Launched a 1:1 Initiative K-12 with scheduled eLearning Days
- District regained a positive general fund balance
- $10 million renovation project at the Mt. Vernon Middle School with no tax impact
- Enrollment increased more than 500 students in three years and currently is 4,000+ students
- Developed an international exchange program for MVCSC, beginning with China, Taiwan, Spain and Germany
- Launched the Mini-Marauder Preschool – Early Learning Academy
- Launched two MVCSC apps with push notifications for additional community outreach/connection
- Began a “Delayed Start Wednesdays” program to provide weekly professional development for teachers in support of the 1:1 Initiative
- Invested in the Mt. Vernon High School band with 80 instruments and band tower
- Removed the “Pay-to-Participate” club and athletic fees
