Gentry to sing Garland at District Theatre

After breaking a box office record at The Cat Theatre in Carmel over Independence Day weekend, Magic Thread Cabaret is bringing its hit show “Katy Gentry: Judy Garland LIVE!” to downtown Indianapolis’ Mass Ave. Arts & Cultural District for a special engagement this Christmas season.

The District Theatre, formerly Theatre on the Square, will host a six-show run of this moving cabaret Dec. 7-9 and Dec. 14-16.

“After Katy’s success in Carmel, we’re eager for our audiences to enjoy a night of beautiful music in the intimate space of our Cabaret Stage,” stated IndyFringe Executive Director Pauline Moffat, who is managing The District Theatre. “It doesn’t get any better than the songs of Judy Garland to lift one’s spirits.”

Gentry, a Fishers resident, brings a powerful voice and personal touches to the iconic entertainer’s songbook. Gentry, who twice has played Garland in Actors Theatre of Indiana’s productions of “Beyond the Rainbow,” will sing “Come Rain or Come Shine,” “When You’re Smiling,” “The Man That Got Away” and many other classics. Gentry weaves stories of her own struggles and triumphs, relating them to the music and milestones of her idol.

Tickets are on sale for “Katy Gentry: Judy Garland LIVE!” for Dec. 7, 8, 14 and 15 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 9 Dec. 16 at 4p.m. at The District Theatre Cabaret Stage, 627 Mass Ave. in Indianapolis. Tickets, $30 for general admission, $25 for seniors (65 and older) and $20 for students with a valid ID, are on sale at indyfringe.org.

Before Gentry’s encore performance in Indianapolis, Magic Thread Cabaret will present the final act of the 2017-18 season, “Melissa Schott: The Key of Me,” at The Cat Nov. 16-18.
