According to event co-planner Sara Myers, a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker Kaiser, the real estate group will sponsor a portion of adoptions.

“Because we have several rescues, they all charge a variety of adoption fees,” she said. “All of our individual agents are contributing, and we are trying to pool that and cover as many adoption fees as possible.”

Rescue groups such as Canine Castaways and Our Little Piece of Heaven will provide adoptable dogs. Event co-planner Lisa Modisett, associate broker at Coldwell Banker Kaiser, said local businesses are donating items for a raffle. Items such as gift baskets and pet food have been collected from Club Canine, Hollywood Feed, Love Af’Hair Design Studio, Union Brewing Company and Sugar Creek Winery.

Although the event was not purposefully planned for Veterans Day, the date did lead a group called Veteran’s Best Friend to agree to sponsor an adoption for a local veteran.

“It occurred to us that it was Veterans Day, so we started thinking, ‘What can we do to add to that for the veterans?’ So, I contacted Veteran’s Best Friend and they were all in,” Modisett said.

Myers and Modisett share a lifetime affinity for rescue dogs.

“My current dog, who I’m completely in love with, her mom was rescued from a kill-shelter in Kentucky,” Modisett said. “I grew up with dogs and I love them.”

Businesses wishing to donate items to the Home for Dogs raffle may contact Lisa Modisett at 317-844-1131 or Sara Myers at 800-875-8445.
