Choi said an interest in public policy and a desire to give back to the community he has called home for 12 years were among the deciding factors to run.

“This community and Indiana in general have been really good to my family, giving us a wonderful place to live, have a career and raise our children,” Choi said. “I feel that it is my responsibility to return a fraction of what has been provided to us.”

Choi said his business experience in operations, management and strategic planning gained through his anesthesiology practice will benefit Zionsville.

“Hopefully, I can make a difference through engagement of the Zionsville residents and businesses,” Choi said. “As the one in charge of contracting with hospitals, surgery centers and insurance companies, I bring a wealth of experience in negotiations and consensus-building. I believe these are important traits for a public servant.”

In addition, Choi said he is a lifelong learner who enjoys constant challenges and continued personal growth. His priorities include growing the number of Zionsville businesses without sacrificing the “small-town experience,” improving the infrastructure of the town’s increasing needs, addressing mental health issues in the community and finding ways to curb opioid dependency.

“The opioid epidemic is an area of concern for all communities, and Zionsville is no exception,” he said. “We need to gather meaningful and accurate data around the extent of the issue in our town and provide well-thought-out plans to address it. If we do not, it will become unwieldy before we know it.”

Choi said his wife, Jennifer Choi, and children, Sadie, 10, and Spencer, 9, support his decision to run for town council.

“As a physician, (Jennifer) fully understands the desire to serve others,” he said. “As far as my children, they just think that it’s cool.”
