Scott Redmon sees great merit in Craine House’s mission of providing an innovative alternative sentencing work-release program for women.

It offers nonviolent female offenders with preschool-aged children a second chance for rehabilitation through family therapy, substance-abuse counseling and vocational programs.

“It’s a great cause. It’s helping people get on their feet and teaching them responsibility,” said Redmon, a Carmel resident. “I learned about it through our church (St. Paul Episcopal Church in Indianapolis), but it’s about giving women a second chance and hope and how do we break the cycle. It’s about how do we give them job training and teach them skills to live on their own, give their kids a good eduction and go from there.”

Redmon, as a Craine House board member, is helping with the sixth annual Bingo Fundraiser, which will be from 5 to 10 p.m. Feb. 2 at the Knights of Columbus, 2100 E. 71st St., Indianapolis. The Craine House is at 6130 N. Michigan Rd., Indianapolis.

Redmon, who has been on the board for six months, has been supporting Craine House for six years.

“I’ve always attended their bingo event,” Redmon said. “When they bought this location, my dad and I went over on weekends and we were painting it until they got ready and moved in.”

Redmon said women are referred to the Craine House through an agreement with a judge, prosecutor and public defender.

“They have to get a job, and they pay rent to the Craine House,” Redmon said. “We have local businesses in food and manufacturing that we partner with to get them jobs.”

There will be a big prize raffle. The theme is tailgating because it is held the day before the Super Bowl.

Tickets are $50, which includes bingo, dinner and two drink tickets for those age 21 and older.

Tickets for the Big Prize Raffle, which includes 10 prizes worth $200 or more, are $100 each. The top prizes include a booze wagon with 21 bottles of alcohol ($1,200 value), dinner for four at the Homestretch Steakhouse and $200 in casino vouchers for Harrah’s Hoosier Park Casino ($500 value) and a one-night stay at the Conrad Indianapolis with a $100 gift card to The Capital Grille ($500 value).
