Clerk-treasurer’s office to lose another employee

The short-staffed Carmel Clerk-Treasurer’s Office will soon lose another employee.

Connie Murphy, accounts payable administrator, alerted the city April 22 that her final day in the office will be May 3.

The Carmel City Council had already scheduled a special meeting for 5:30 p.m. April 23 to investigate the actions of Clerk-Treasurer Christine Pauley after she fired Ann Bingman, director of internal controls, April 17. The city is in the middle of completing its annual audit, and the council has expressed concern about finishing the audit without Bingman’s position filled.

Murphy said her decision to resign was unrelated to Bingman’s termination.

“I don’t want to work in the political field anymore,” Murphy said, adding that she has another job lined up.

Murphy has worked in local government since April 2007, previously working in the parks and community services departments.
