The outdoor concert series, Fridays at the Fort, will return again this year at Lawrence Civic Plaza, 9230 Memorial Park Dr., Lawrence. The six concerts are free and open to the public.

Each concert begins at 6 p.m. and lasts until approximately 9 p.m. Various food trucks will be available at each concert

“We do try to reach out to local food trucks here in Lawrence first, we really try to support the Lawrence community,” said Lecia Floyd, who is in charge of media and community relations for the event.
This is Arts for Lawrence’s fourth year organizing the concerts.

There is a kids’ area at each concert with games and arts and crafts. Floyd also said the concerts are pet friendly, and people are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. Although attendees are advised not to bring alcoholic beverages, there will be a beer tent selling beer and wine.

The concerts are rain or shine unless weather is dangerous. Floyd calls the event “laid back.”

“It’s not your traditional sit-down concert and everybody just kind of sits,” she said. “We encourage the community to get up and dance, walk around. A lot of times kids are playing football or hula hooping or hopscotch. It’s a really fun, interactive environment.”
