Kitchen and bathroom remodeling seems to be everywhere as evidenced by the Neighborhood Dumpster Index, or NDI. Of course, the NDI is a facetious index, but the volume of dumpsters in driveways is an amusing indicator of the pervasive nature of interior upgrades happening across our neighborhoods.
Our observations inform us that about 60 percent of remodels are for homeowners who have settled in for years versus 40 percent for having recently moved.
Adam Gibson, a design professional in the Indiana Design Center and Certified Master Kitchen and Bath Designer we collaborate with, recently attended the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show in Las Vegas and shared these inspirations with us from the show:
- The predominance of grays and whites is gradually fading, most notably in appliances.
- Ovens, exhaust fans and even farmhouse-style sink fronts offered bursts of color not seen since avocado and mustard were things.
- And did you know gold tones are back? Not the cheap, polished brass from 30 years ago, but rich, lustrous tones burnished with warm finishes.
- Lighting is everywhere! Inside cabinets, under toe kicks, even built into floating shelves.
- Interconnectivity is here to stay. You can preheat your oven, disarm your alarm system, lower your air conditioner, all while driving home from work — from your phone.
We are incredibly fueled, jazzed and excited for the fresh color pallets and rapid pace of innovations infiltrating kitchen and bathroom projects and have already been employing many of these innovations!
