Monroe’s books can be described as environmental fiction. Her home in coastal South Carolina provides the idyllic setting for most of her novels.

“Mary Alice is one of those writers that has been around a long time,” said Liz Hamilton, CCPL Foundation director. “She has written a lot of books that people just love, and she has a really strong following.”

Her book “The Beach House” was released as a movie in 2018. The book explores the sometimes fragile relationship between mothers and daughters in the South Carolina Lowcountry.

“I’ve read that there are some other novels that she’s written that they’re working on movie rights for, but I don’t really know which ones,” Hamilton said. “So, I’m hoping she’ll give us an update on that.”

Monroe’s latest book, “The Summer Guests,” will be released June 11. She’ll also discuss the inspiration for her newest release.

“She will come in and talk a little bit about herself, her life and her writing style,” Hamilton said. “Then, she’ll talk about her new book. We will have copies of it for sale for guests.”

After lunch, guests will have the opportunity to meet Monroe and have their books signed.

“Attendees will have a chance to talk to her a little bit and ask any private questions that they would like,” Hamilton said.

Tickets are $30 per person. Registration is required by emailing or calling the foundation office at [email protected] or 317-814-3984.
