The Merciful HELP Center, a social outreach of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, provides food, clothing, housewares and winter coats to Hamilton County residents in need. Each month, the center holds a sale to raise money.

“Whatever is donated to the center that can be used goes to a family in need,” volunteer Kimmie Hamilton said. “We take whatever we don’t give away, organize it and sell it to raise money for our ministry.”

Items are donated by the community. Goods for sale include clothing, shoes, toys, jewelry, home décor, sporting goods and furniture.

“We feel like it’s our responsibility to be good stewards of the gifts that God has given us,” Hamilton said. “That also entails the gifts that are given to the center, so first and foremost, we want to make sure that all of those gifts go to those in need first. Other gifts that are given that don’t meet the formula are what we’re able to have in some of these garage sales.”

Most items in the sale are $1 unless otherwise priced.

“The money we raise from selling the items then goes back into a fund to support our food pantry or other services we offer,” Hamilton said. “It’s crucial for the Merciful HELP Center that we have community support to provide for those who are less fortunate. Things are tough out there. Grocery costs are rising. We’re just trying to serve those in need in Hamilton County.”

The next sale is from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nov. 14 and 15 at 1155 West 146th St. Guests should park at the Merciful HELP Center at 1045 West 145th St. Suite A and walk to the sale.
