Carmel Clay Public Library is encouraging readers of all ages to take advantage of time spent indoors during the holiday season to expand their literary horizons. The annual CCPL adult Winter Reading Program will begin Jan. 6. The teen and child programs are scheduled to start Dec. 20.

“This year, we are doing a book bingo for our program, so essentially readers will receive a bingo card and they will have a bunch of different options on how to complete their bingo in order to complete the program,” said Sara O’Sha, CCPL audiovisual services supervisor.

The library is using a bingo format to encourage readers to explore different types of literature.

“Most (bingo squares) are reading related, so there are tasks like a book suggested by a friend, a book with a one-word title, a book about a person with a disability, and so on,” O’Sha said. “Our Readers’ Advisory librarians will have lists for some of the more challenging tasks to help readers identify great books.”

Adults who accomplish a bingo prior to March 2 will receive a book-themed tote bag and be entered in raffles for gift certificates to local businesses. Teens are eligible to win a notebook, coupon to the library cafe and free book. Children also will receive a free book in addition to an assortment of toys.

Bingo cards can be found at the library or online at carmel.lib.in.us.
