Sailing club offers six weeks of camps

Michelle Sarber said the Indianapolis Sailing Club was fortunate last year not to have had canceled all of its camps because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, none will be canceled.

We are, at this point, planning on offering six weeks of sailing camp this summer starting in June,” said Sarber, the Junior Sailing director with the Indianapolis Sailing Club, 11325 Fall Creek Rd., Indianapolis.

The camps are broken up into one-week increments, but campers can participate in more than one week.

“The good thing about this program is, it does build on itself, but you don’t have to be (attending camp) consecutively. Anyone can benefit,” Sarber said. “You can book one week or all six weeks. It builds on itself. Most people do two or three weeks out of the summer.”

The camps are designed for children ages 8 to 17. Each camp runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and has space for 30 to 32 campers, depending on staff. Sarber said the camps fill up quickly.

“Last year, before the pandemic hit, at the end of February we had three weeks full,” Sarber said.

Registration is open, and the form is accessible at indianapolissailing.org. Registration won’t close until the week is full. The weekly price is $425 for non-members and $275 for members. There are discounted rates if more than one child signs up per family. Children must bring their own life jacket and lunch.
