The Carmel City Council will highlight International Women’s Day, which is observed March 8, by inviting women who work in various city departments to attend its March 1 meeting.

The women, dressed in uniform, will watch two Carmel girls present a petition they started which asks the city to ban the use of “Men at Work” construction signs. The girls wrote to Carmel City Council President Sue Finkam, requesting the signs be banned.

City officials stated the council, in a “largely symbolic” gesture, would consider the girls’ petition. City officials stated existing federal and state laws do not permit usage of the signs.

City of Carmel government meetings are broadcast live on the city’s website, carmel.in.gov, as well as local access television.
