Emergency culvert replacement on 96th Street

0

The Board of Public Works and Safety approved a contract this morning to replace an aging culvert that needs emergency repair under 96th Street, east of College Avenue.  The affected portion of the 96th Street roadway will also be restored. A large head wall will be installed at the end of the pipe on the south side of 96th Street.

A portion of 96th Street was closed on October 17, 2012.  Currently, one lane of traffic in each direction is being maintained on the two northernmost westbound lanes of 96th Street.

Due to the nature of the project and to minimize the length of the road closure, work will take place overnight.  A small amount of tree and vegetation clearing is required and is scheduled to begin this evening (Wednesday).

Removal of the current structure is scheduled to begin tomorrow (Thursday) and workers plan to begin driving piles (to shore up an existing hole) on Friday.  The pile driving will unfortunately be noisy and is expected to continue into Saturday as well.

A full, five day closure of 96th Street east of College Avenue is anticipated to begin on Monday, November 12th.  On or after November 17th, the road will be opened to traffic with lane restrictions.  The entire project is expected to be completed before the Thanksgiving Holiday (weather dependant).
