Farmers market enthusiasts will soon have a new location to stop by on Saturday mornings.

Whitestown is launching a new farmers market, and it’s the first of its kind in the town’s history. The inaugural market will take place on July 11 and run each following Saturday until September 12. It’ll be held at the Whitestown Municipal Complex on 6210 County Road S 700 East. The market will last from 10 am to 2 pm.

Nathan Messer, the director of the Whitestown Parks and Recreation board, said that the board wants to offer another avenue for sellers and buyers that attend the Zionsville farmers market.

“I’ve talked to vendors who have tried to get into the Zionsville market but couldn’t because there’s no room,” Messer said. Messer said that a handful of produce and meat vendors confirmed they’ll come to the first market, and that he’s in contact with around 10 other vendors. There will also be vendors selling cultural goods at the market.

Messer said that the new Whitestown market will coexist with the Zionsville market, and it’ll bring more commerce to the region.

“People from Lebanon, Brownsburg and even Indianapolis could come to two markets,” Messer said. “And some of the vendors said they can cross over and do both.”

“The Zionsville one is very busy and popular,” Messer added. “We want to add one that’s just as popular.”

Messer said that, since the market is new, they’ll accept most anyone that wants to sell local goods at the market, although he said it won’t become a flea market. Whitestown is requiring most goods come from Indiana.

“It’s open to anyone who’s growing or making their own stuff,” Messer said. “This year we aren’t going to put a lot of guidelines in place.”
