Mayor’s Night In – Mayor Tim Haak and the Town of Zionsville staff and department heads want to hear from you. Mayor’s Night In will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. April 26 at Zionsville Town Hall. This is a chance to hear about the current happenings in Zionsville, to ask questions and to connect with Town officials. Following a brief presentation, there will be a Q&A session. All residents, neighborhood associations and businesses are invited to attend.
Zionsville among the safest – SafeWise analyzed data from across the nation to determine which cities are safest. Using FBI crime statistics, the team evaluated each city’s public safety, public health, and educational offerings. Zionsville made it into the top 100, ranked as the 74th safest city in America.

Z’GreenFest set for April 23 – The Zion Nature Center will host the 11th annual Z’GreenFest from 2 to 5 p.m. April 23, at the Hussey Mayfield Library. The event is free and open to the public. Educational activities will correspond to the theme of the celebration, “Growing Greener”. Gardening workshops and children’s programs will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the library and are open for registration on the calendar at zionsvillelibrary.org.
Coffee With a Cop – The Zionsville Police Dept. invites the public to Coffee With a Cop from 9 to 10:30 a.m. April 22 at McDonald’s, 50 Brendon Way. Community members can meet with officers, ask questions and learn more about the department’s work.
Protecting estates lecture – The Institute for Christian Thought will host elder law attorney Carol Applegate as she speaks about protecting estates and supervising assets. The lecture will be held at 7 p.m. April 19 at the SullivanMunce Cultural Center, 225 W. Hawthorne St. Applegate is an adjunct professor of nursing, law, ethics and business law at IU School of Nursing. This free lecture is for adults of all ages. A question and answer session will follow.
Kite Day – The sixth annual Kite Day will be held from noon to 3 p.m. April 30 at The Boys & Girls Club West, 5964 S. 700 East, Whitestown. Bring your family, friends, kites and picnics. Theater Thursdays – Boone County Senior Services, Inc. brings back Theater Thursdays on the third Thursday of each month with a special morning movie at the Lebanon 7 Theater, 1600 N. Electronics recycling – An electronics recycling drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 22 at University High School, 2825 W. 116th St. Phones, computers, printers, tablets, cables, and more are welcome. Tube TV’s with a CRT screen have an additional $10 charge.
Parks programs – Starkey Park observations, 1 to 3 p.m. April 29 at Starkey Park, 667 Sugarbush Dr. Observations are being collected with iNaturalist to provide a better understanding of the species and habitats that thrive within Starkey Park. Bring your smart phone or camera and join Park Naturalist Mindy Murdock as she explores the seasonal changes in the park.
Electronics recycling – An electronics recycling and shredding drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 29 at Creekside Middle School, 126th and Shelbourne Road, Carmel. Shredding is $5 per box. Electronics recycling is free except for tube TVs and monitors, which are $10 each. Also accepted will be prescription drugs. Proceeds will benefit Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana.
New scholarship program – Indiana Members Foundation, the charitable arm of Indiana Members Credit Union, announces the new Robert E. Martin Collegiate Scholarship Program, available to college students that are members of Indiana Members Credit Union. Up to twenty-five $1,000 scholarships will be offered. Shoe drive for HEC – As a part of the Aveda Earth Month campaign, Sundance SalonSpa is conducting a shoe drive to raise funds for Hoosier Environmental Council’s (HEC) clean water initiatives. HEC will earn funds based on the total weight of shoes collected as Funds2Orgs will purchase all of the donated footwear. Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used, (even sports shoes) or new shoes through April 30 at Sundance SalonSpa, 47 S. Elm St., or at HEC’s headquarters, 3951 N. Meridian St., Ste. 100, Indianapolis (must be between office hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.).
Lunch and Learn On the Road – Boone County Senior Services announces the 2017 lineup for Lunch and Learn On the Road. Lunch and Learn On the Road is for people age 60 and over who would like to travel with us by motor coach to see different parts of our state and learn something new, plus enjoy a special meal. Meeting dates – The Boone County Solid Waste Management District Board meeting dates for 2017 have been announced. All meetings begin at 8:30 a.m. and are held at the County Annex Building, 116 W. Washington St., Room 105, Lebanon. The meeting dates are May 18, July 20, Sept. 21 and Nov. 16.
Garden Club plant auction – The Village Garden Club will hold a plant auction at 10 a.m. on May 30 at Mulberry Fields, corner of Mulberry and Ford Road. Proceeds from the auction will be used for the club’s beautification projects and grants. Questions may be directed to 317-873-1898.
