Josh Brown had become a fan of podcasts.

“I’d listen to them when I was driving or working out,” he said.

So the Carmel attorney, who specializes in franchise law, decided to start his own podcast nearly four years ago.

“I thought it might be a cool thing to differentiate my law practice,” said Brown, whose office is at 12821 E. New Market St. Suite 250, Carmel. “I was thinking I would just do it on franchise-related matters, not providing legal advice or anything like that. But just provide free valuable information to entrepreneurs who are considering getting into franchising, whether that is buying a franchise or turning a business  into a franchise. When I didn’t have interviews, I’d just talk myself in 15-minute or so segments about franchises and things you might want to know before you get involved with a franchise.”

Brown said the podcasts, called “Franchise Euphoria,” have been a tremendous boost to his business. He’s picked up more than 20 new clients as a result.

“I give the podcast credit for being able to expand what I’ve been able to do and expand the business,” Brown said.

When Brown started, he did podcasts once per week.

“As I got more and more people who wanted to come on the show and my law practice continued to grow, I went to doing one every couple of weeks,” Brown said. “The nice thing about podcasts is they are evergreen. I have people reach out to me from my first episode. It’s nice because I don’t feel the pressure of doing one every week or every other week, even though ideally that’s what I’d like to do. When I started it, I didn’t know what to expect. I just wanted to provide value to people.”

Brown’s podcasts are available through iTunes under the business and marketing category. He said listeners from approximately 115 nations have downloaded the podcast.

“I get people with fascinating stories and questions,” he said.

An average of approximately 3,500 listeners download the podcast each month.
