Melt the Trail, a 5K and 10K run/walk, will return to Grand Park at 9 a.m. Feb. 3. The Valentine’s-themed race will feature a costume contest and is, among other features, family friendly.

Strollers are welcome.

“The big thing is we live in Indiana, and while it can be cold, we have had a variety of weather at this event,” Communications Director Erin Murphy said. “It just shows you never know what the weather is going to be in February, and our trail system is not just for four or five months out of the year. We are an active community, a healthy community, and we want to have an event really focused on outdoor activities year-round, and the perfect place to do that will be at Grand Park.”

The Valentine’s Day card-making station will return this year. Participants and volunteers can craft Valentine’s Day cards for the Wellbrooke of Westfield residents. Murphy said the city may record the delivery again this year and post it on the city’s Facebook page.

“The goal is just to increase the awareness for everybody and build it as we are going into our fourth year,” Murphy said.

Murphy said the event has steadily increased. More than 300 people participated last year. Grand Park Marketing Manager Alexa Lingg said this year’s goal is to surpass 400.

To participate in the social media costume contest, take a photo of the Valentine’s Day-themed costume and post on social media with the hashtag #meltthetrail2018.

Volunteers are still needed for the event. Registration for participating in the race is $35 for the 5K and $40 for the 10K.  The deadline to guarantee a T-shirt has passed but some may be available.
