The Carmel Democratic Club is inviting local voters to meet Democratic candidates running for office in the municipal election from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Carmel Clay Public Library, 425 E. Main St.

At the “Human Library” event, attendees can “check out” candidates instead of books to get to know them and make an informed decision on Nov. 7, Election Day.

This year there will be more Democratic candidates on the ballot in Carmel than ever before, with seven candidates running for city council and a mayoral candidate, as well.

“Carmel residents don’t often get a choice at the ballot box,” stated Beth Sprunger, vice president of the Carmel Democratic Club. “This year, there will be a record number of people to choose from, but many voters are still not aware.”

Democratic candidates on the ballot are Miles Nelson (mayor), Sara Draper (at-large), Jake Madore (at-large), Melanie Brown (Northwest District), Courtney Culver (North Central District), Jeremy Eltz (Southeast District), Jessica Irvine (South Central District) and Anita Joshi (West District).
