Decision on Fair Train coming soon

Sources with the Indiana Transportation Museum confirmed to the Current in Fishers that a final “go (or) no-go” decision will be made Aug. 2 regarding the status of this summer’s Indiana State Fair Train from Fishers.

The Hoosier Heritage Port Authority banned the ITM from its tracks in March and upheld the ban July 13 while issuing a list of 13 conditions that needed to be met before the port authority would consider allowing the Fair Train to operate.

Those conditions include adhering to all safety protocols, yearly and monthly track maintenance plans, providing complete copies of the ITM’s annual budgets, its safety programs, inspection reports, accident and injury reports and schedules.

Seven former ITM volunteers and whistleblowers wrote a letter alleging the museum’s board of directors of questionable financial practices, failing to maintain records and improper training and safety precautions.

The ITM has been working closely with the HHPA to wrap up its requirements. Should the track ban be lifted, the ITM plans to release information regarding Fair Train schedules and tickets at ITM.org.
