An Aug. 7 single-vehicle accident in Lawrence claimed the life of 24-year-old Larry Morefield of Indianapolis.
According to a Lawrence Police Dept. release, Morefield was driving a gold 2004 Ford Taurus westbound on Pendleton Pike and lost control of the vehicle. The car struck a utility pole and inverted several times before coming to a stop in a used car lot in the 8900 block of Pendleton Pike.
An Aug. 8 post-mortem examination at the Marion County Coroner’s Office showed multiple blunt-force trauma injuries caused Morefield’s death, and investigators have determined he was not wearing a seatbelt.
While toxicology results are still pending, investigators have not discovered any obvious indications of impairment. Investigators do believe excessive speed may have been a contributing factor.
An adult female passenger in the vehicle, who was wearing a seatbelt, was transported to a local area hospital and in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
