Dawn Knight, co-owner of Grand Junction Brewing Co. and an English teacher at Westfield High School, created a book club that has a bit of a different draw to it.
Pints and Pages meets on scheduled Wednesdays at the brewery, 110 S. Union St., to discuss the current book and enjoy brews during conversation.
“I used to be in a book club and missed it and thought having part of it is trying to find somewhere where everyone can meet,” she said. “I thought, ‘Now we have the back room in the brewery and nobody has to worry about getting anything ready.’ They can just show up and eat and have a couple beers and talk about books.”
The current book is “The Invention of Wings” by Sue Monk Kidd, and the next meeting to discuss the book is 4:30 p.m. April 27.
Pints and Pages addresses a range of different styles and genres, and Knight suggested those who attend be 18 or older due to some of the material discussed in the books.
“I think we are open to anything. We don’t want to get stuck in a genre,” Knight said. “I think sometimes it’s nice to just be able to hang out and talk about books. We don’t give ourselves that time, we have such long to-do lists all the time, giving yourself an appointment you take that time for yourself and talk to other people about books and things we love while drinking good beer is great.”
The club doesn’t follow specific questions, although sometimes members look up discussion questions to ask the group. Approximately five to 10 people attend each book club meeting.
Other books that have been read and discussed by the club are “The Nightingale” and “Girl on a Train.”
