The marathon and half marathon will be capped at 2,500 and 5,000 registrants, respectively.

The support for our inaugural event has been greater than we expected,” said Todd Oliver, Carmel Road Racing Group President. “Because we are committed to ensuring a positive experience for our participants, we feel setting a cap on the two largest events will allow us to plan and execute the weekend without surprises.”

“It is exciting to see such a great response,” said Oliver. “Local support is strong as the number of registrations from Carmel continues to outpace all Central Indiana communities including Indianapolis. Nationally, we have registrations from 11 states and as far away as Santa Ana, California; Miami, Florida; and Fairbanks, Alaska.”

The weekend’s other two events – the Championship Weekend 8K and the Allstate 1-Mile Family Fitness Walk – will not be capped because of their later starting times. The Carmel Marathon Championship Weekend begins with opening ceremonies followed by the marathon and half marathon official start at 7:00 a.m. The Championship Weekend 8K begins at 8:30 a.m., and the Allstate 1-Mile Family Fitness Walk starts at 10:00 a.m.

The weekend also hosts the USA Track & Field Men’s 8K National Championship featuring the country’s top male runners competing for a $20,000 purse. The USA Track & Field Men’s 8K National Championship begins at 8:30 a.m. along with the Championship Weekend 8K. The elite men will line up in the first corral and run the same 8K course offering casual runners the opportunity to stand on the same start line and run alongside potential 2012 Olympians.

All events, with the exception of the Allstate 1-mile Family Fitness Walk, will start and finish on City Center Drive at the new Palladium. Courses will take runners and walkers throughout Hamilton County then finally down Main Street for the last mile offering all participants a festive Tour de France atmosphere. The weekend concludes with the Indiana Live! Street Party from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. on Main Street featuring live music, Awards Presentation and the Closing Ceremonies.
