A Carmel-based nonprofit is celebrating a major milestone along with the evidence that its efforts are paying off. Love at Work Ministries has announced the first high school graduate of its education program, Vanesa Morera Gonzalez. Love at Work serves the poorest of the poor in Costa Rica with a comprehensive program that includes education, housing, nutrition and youth ministry.

Gonzalez has been part of Love at Work’s Christian education program since she was 14 years old.

“In Costa Rica, only 40-percent of the population actually earns a high school diploma,” said Carole Prible, the organization’s co-founder. “Vanesa has worked incredibly hard and can now look forward to attending the university. She is a pioneer for her poverty-stricken neighborhood!”

Love at Work’s Education Program currently supports more than 40 students who show tremendous promise despite their desperate living conditions. The program, though, is deeply in need of funding and Love at Work has launched an Education Partner fundraising campaign to match new donors with this special effort.

“Love at Work’s education program provides kids an opportunity to walk out of hopelessness and bondage into purpose and freedom through Jesus Christ,” Co-founder Larry Prible said. “Education is the single largest determining factor in whether a child will live the rest of his or her life in poverty.”

Danelle Butler of Fishers is thrilled her family is an Education Partner and urges others to get involved.

“Education is so important to all kids, everywhere. When we were looking for a mission to become involved with as a family, Love at Work fit right in to our family’s philosophy and more importantly our faith,” she said. “Love at Work works because it starts and ends with Christ.”
