Carmel Arts Council starts fundraising campaign

Paige leaned across the fence into her best friend, Amber’s Carmel backyard to ask if she had done it yet.

“No,” Amber said, “But as soon as the kids get off the computer, I am all over it.  When I heard it was just $5, I knew this was going to be the best $5 I spent this month.”

“Don’t you know it, girl!” Paige shot back.  “I can’t believe the amount of work those ladies at the Carmel Arts Council get accomplished on such a meager budget. I was just at the World’s Smallest Children’s Art Gallery to view Brook’s classroom paintings. What a gift to our community that place is.”

“You mean that cute little yellow building in the Carmel Arts & Design District?” Amber questioned. “Don’t you know it! And when we went there last year, there was this nice lady with a distinguished British accent telling us about each student’s work.”

“You must be talking about Doreen Squire Ficara. She is the executive director for the Arts Council. Along with her faithful committee, they have come up with this $5 campaign in order to raise funds to keep the council going. I guess they lost a good portion of their funding recently.  So, in less than two minutes, you can slap down $5 and help out.”

“Just two minutes?” Amber could hardly believe it was that easy.  They were longtime friends, but sometimes Paige was known to exaggerate.

This dialogue has been a reenactment of an actual conversation, although the names have been changed. Believe it or not, it really is that easy. Carmelites “in the know” are going to tweet, text, email and tell their neighbors, just like Paige and Amber, about this upcoming opportunity to support our very own Carmel Arts Council at www.power2give.org/indianapolis. On the left side of the screen, click Carmel Arts Council then update info. Five dollars may not sound like much, but to the Carmel Arts Council, it makes you a major donor.

On that website page, you will see two projects now underway, and you can be assured exactly where your $5 will go. The money raised on the Power2Give website will help supplement the Council’s already limited budget in order to use other funding sources to operate and maintain the Art Gallery, Carmel High School Spring Art Show, Holiday on the Square, Historical Building Plaques, Young Performers Showcase, Veterans Day Essay Contest and general promotion of the arts in Carmel.

Do what Amber and Paige did, but grab the computer before the kids do. That’s when we heard Paige’s daughter Brooke say, “Mom, don’t wait, just use your iPhone!”
