Gov. Pence signs FFA Week proclamation

Today Gov. Mike Pence and Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann joined in the Indiana kickoff celebration of National FFA Week Feb.16 through 23. The Governor and Lt. Governor met for a brief meeting and photo opportunity with the Indiana FFA Officers and members for FFA Page Day.

In addition, Pence presented the FFA member present with the 2013 FFA Week Proclamation for Indiana, which read:

“Whereas, FFA and agricultural education provide a strong foundation for the youth of America and the future of the food, fiber and natural resources systems: and

Whereas, FFA promotes premier leadership, personal growth and career success among its members; and

Whereas, agricultural education and FFA ensure a steady supply of young professionals to meet the growing demands in the science, business and technology of agriculture; and

Whereas, the FFA motto – “learning to do, doing to learn, earning a to live, living to serve” – gives direction of purpose to these students who take an active roles in succeeding in agricultural education; and

Whereas, FFA promotes citizenship, volunteerism, patriotism and cooperation.

Therefore, I, Michael Richard Pence, Governor of the State of Indiana, do hereby designate Feb. 16 through 23, 2013 as FFA Week in the state of Indiana and invite all citizens to duly note this occasion.”

The Indiana FFA state officers and members also participated in the Indiana House Page Program and the Indiana Senate Page Program which allowed them a first-hand view of the legislative process. Additional FFA activitvies this week include The Molly Gibson Memorial Breakfast at Franklin Community High school, the Westview FFA Blood Drive, Triton Central Salvation Army Day, and the Caston FFA Community Hog Roast.  With an emphasis on serving and fellowship, many FFA chapters participate in local community activities.
