Meet your teacher, Aaron Byers

0

Grade/Subject at what school: Second grade, Carey Ridge Elementary

Number of years teaching: 13

Background/Schooling (college & high school): Noblesville High School; B.S. Elementary Education, Ball State University; and M.A. Education, Indiana Wesleyan University.

Why did you become a teacher? I worked for an after school elementary program in high school. In college, I was enrolled in the architecture program and found myself missing these interactions between students and caregivers. To me teaching is a calling, a way to help others.

What goals do you have for your students? I’d like my students to be able to stretch their minds and set lofty goals for themselves, be happy with who they are, and grow into successful young men and women.

What do you encourage parents to do at home to help their children strengthen particular skills? Children mimic what they see at home. Parents who enjoy reading, doing puzzles, exercising or going to museums often have children who will do the same.

What is your favorite movie? “Airplane!”

Who is your favorite musician or band? So, so many. Currently I enjoy listening to The Cribs and Bloc Party.

What’s something your students might not know about you? If you see me running or cycling in Westfield, make sure to honk!
