Two evenings of mind-blowing jazz

The Palladium at the Center for Performing Arts in Carmel will present two evenings of note-bending jazz this week as Doc Severinsen & His Big Band visit Thursday and Chick Corea and Gary Burton come on Saturday.

Severinsen is perhaps the most iconic band leader from the golden age of television, as Johnny Carson’s leader of the “Tonight Show Band.” Now Doc is bringing his Big Band back out on the road. Doc still brings his trademark wit and has not lost his flair for the outrageous fashion statement. But, in the end, Doc Severinsen has transcended his celebrity, and rejoiced in his remarkable ability to simply play his trumpet as well as he can. Which has proven to be good enough for the millions of people who count themselves his fans. His concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

Top-flight jazz artists in their own right, pianist Corea and vibes master (and Indiana native) Burton form a Grammy-winning duo whose unique take on “standards” have garnered widespread critical acclaim. To preview these unparalleled masters in action, click here. The concert begins at 8 p.m.
