Carmel schools to make up snow days with longer school days

Staff report

In light of the recent weather related cancellations, Carmel Clay Schools had decided to extend school hours to make up the three days of lost instructional time.

The schools’ published school calendar states that make-up days will be added on to the end of the calendar as needed, however, under the conditional waiver offered by the Indiana Department of Education, Carmel schools have elected to make up the lost instructional time by lengthening the school day.

In the event there are additional school cancellations, make-up days would be added to the end of the school year.

What does this mean?

Effective March 6 through the end of the school year, the following school schedules will be followed:

● Carmel High School    7:45 a.m. – 3:20 p.m.

● Middle Schools           7:40 a.m. – 3:20 p.m.

● Elementary Schools    8:03 a.m. – 2:50 p.m.

Bus transportation will be adjusted accordingly. New bus stop times will be available on myCCS beginning Feb. 28.

The third grading period will end on March 21.  Report cards will be distributed on March 28.

The school year for students will end on Thursday, May 29, as originally stated on the 2013-14 calendar.
