The Humane Society for Hamilton County Announces “Wine, Wags & Whiskers”

On April 11, 2014, the public is invited to taste more than 40 fine wines, enjoy delicious hors d’oeuvres and mingle with adoptable pets in support of the Humane Society for Hamilton County’s (HSHC) unwanted, abused and injured pets. The event will be held at The Mansion at Oak Hill in Carmel.

“The number of unwanted animals, especially seniors, is on the rise,” said HSHC executive director Rebecca Stevens.  “We have also seen an increase in the number of hit-by-car cases and those animals arriving in horrible condition as a result of neglect.  Wine, Wags & Whiskers was created to help raise money for the daily care and medical expense required to give these animals the second chance they deserve.”

In 2013, HSHC took in 3,363 animals.   HSHC is an open-admission facility that receives not only the unwanted, abandoned and stray animals of Hamilton County, but also those animals found abused, neglected, severely wounded or suffering with hit-by-car injuries.  And still, HSHC operates as one of the only no-kill, open admission facilities in the Midwest.  The organization does not euthanize animals for space, arbitrary time restrictions, treatable illnesses/injuries or rehabilitatable behavior issues.  It also spays and neuters all adopted animals.  HSHC has garnered a reputation in the community and within national animal welfare circles for its extraordinary efforts in saving and finding homes for the hardest-to-adopt pets including seniors and those with special medical needs or disabilities.

The event will include a silent auction with a wide variety of items including unique artwork, gift baskets, sports and family event packages, autographed memorabilia and jewelry featuring a custom-made necklace from Aronstam Jewelers valued at $3,000. Wine, Wags & Whiskers has a fundraising goal of $50,000.

Tickets to Wine, Wags & Whiskers are available online at www.WineWagsandWhiskers.com for just $55 per person in advance, or $65 at the door.  They may also be purchased at the shelter.  The event starts at 6:00 p.m. and is presented by Crown Liquors, Fibertech Networks, Curran Architecture, My 107.9, Noah’s Animal Hospitals and Aronstam Jewelers.

If you are unable to make the event but are interested in helping HSHC, there are many opportunities to do including adoption, fostering an animal in need, volunteering and charitable contributions. More information is available at www.HamiltonHumane.com or call 317-773-4974.
