On Sept. 10, road crews began to shift traffic on U.S. 31 to the east side of the highway near 136th Street to begin construction on the western half of the roadway. One lane of northbound and southbound traffic will be maintained between 136th Street and the Monon Trail crossing south of 146th Street.

Traffic on southbound U.S. 31 will exit into the 136th Street, Eglin Drive and Rohrer Road roundabout. Motorists accessing northbound U.S. 31 from 136th Street must enter via the new ramp east of U.S. 31. One lane of eastbound and westbound traffic will be maintained on 136th Street underneath the new U.S. 31 bridge.

E & B Paving and Gradex are INDOT contractors for the $141 million contract to upgrade U.S. 31 to freeway standards from 96th Street to the Monon overpass.

The contract builds new roundabout interchanges at 106th, 116th, 131st and 136th streets and improvements to the U.S. 31 and I-465 interchange, including two flyover ramps from southbound U.S. 31 to eastbound I-465 and eastbound I-465 to northbound U.S. 31.
