More than 400 students from ZWMS will be walking to school along with parents, teachers and community leaders. The event is being organized by ZWMS Fuel Up to Play 60 club co-leaders and teachers Liz Ferrand and Jeani Schultz.

“ZWMS is very excited to be participating in this exciting event again,” Ferrand said. “[Last year] was such an amazing experience for both staff and students. With the help of Fuel Up To Play 60 and the American Dairy Association Indiana, Inc., we were able to promote an active and healthy lifestyle with our students along with the importance of eating a healthy breakfast.”

ZWMS’ Fuel Up to Play 60 club will be joined by representatives from the American Dairy Association Indiana Inc. as well the Colts videographer who will take footage to feature ZWMS as a “School of the Week” on an upcoming “Colts Playbook With Coach Pagano” segment, airing the following Sunday morning on WISH-TV.

The event will begin at 7 a.m. with kids, parents and community leaders walking from various locations.  Walkers will arrive at the school by 7:15 a.m. and will be joined by the American Dairy Association IN Inc.’s mascot, Buttercup, who will be handing out Prairie Farms white and chocolate milk in an effort to bring awareness to the importance of powering up with protein first thing in the morning.

Walk to School Day events raise awareness of the need to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion and concern for the environment. The events are designed to build connections between families, schools and the broader community.
