When one thinks of a fundraiser for a youth group, clay shooting may not be the first idea that comes to mind. But when it comes to the Hamilton South Eastern Young Life chapter event in early May, clay shooting is exactly what’s in store for the fundraiser.

Partnering with the Indiana Gun Club, 14926 E 113th St., Fortville, and national clay-shooting champion Bob Self, Clays for a Cause is an HSE Young Life fundraiser involving a clay pigeon shooting tournament. The event aims to raise funds for the organization. Participants will be competing in teams of five for prizes.

The event is welcome to all skill levels and encourages those who have never handled a firearm before to come out and give it a try.

“Some people that will be coming will have never handled a firearm before and are maybe scared of them, and that’s okay,” Self said. “I try to show them that it is something that that everyone can do.”

The event takes place on May 7 from 3 to 6 p.m. The cost for registration is $500 per team of five or $100 per individual. Individuals will be assigned a team. A dinner will be held afterwards and is included in the registration price. For first-time shooters, Self will be leading an instruction at 2 p.m.

Young Life is still looking for companies wanting to the sponsor the event. For $200, those interested may sponsor a clay shooting station. All benefits will go towards HSE Young Life.
