Zionsville police officers detained a man who jumped through the window of a downtown building Aug. 3 after fleeing from police on foot.

The incident began after police received a call reporting a suspicious person in front of Lions Park. The man was then reported heading into a nearby bank.

“As officers were responding to the scene more information was dispatched in regards to the unknown suspect going into Old National Bank claiming that he had two gentlemen in pursuit after him, and apparently (the suspect said) there was a firearm involved, which was not validated at all,” ZPD Sgt. Adrian Martin said.

The man continued to flee to the Wessel building at Hawthorne and First streets, where he used his shoulder to get through the main entrance, Martin said. He ran through the building and jumped through a glass window facing First Street.

“He unfortunately sustained some injuries due to the glass and was needing medical assistance at that point,” Martin said.

Officers detained the man until medics arrived and determined that he should be transferred to the St. Vincent Stress Center.

Prosecutors are reviewing the incident and will determine whether or not to file charges.
