School is back in session, so it’s time for everyone to start thinking of healthier and more exciting lunch options.

Take the boring almond toast sandwich to the next level for school lunch bag. This yummy and healthy Almond Butter and Bacon Sandwich will bring big smiles on your kids!

I promise you, there will be no swapping and nothing will be wasted!

Note: Almond butter is a great source of protein. Protein is crucial for tissue regeneration and repair. Eating protein through almond butter makes a great late snack for your ravenous athlete teenagers. Protein takes longer to digest and provides a steady source of energy during training and workouts.

ALMOND BUTTER AND BACON SANDWICH

Prep: 10 minutes / Serves: 1

Ingredients:

2 pieces whole grain bread

2 tablespoon almond butter

1 tart apple, cut into thin strips

2 slices bacon, cooked until crisp

Pinch of sea salt (optional)

Directions:

Toast bread; spread 1 tablespoon almond butter on each of 2 slices. Lay apple over almond butter. Top each piece with slices of crisp bacon and sprinkle with sea salt.
