Noblesville burglary victim chases, takes gun from suspect

A Noblesville teen has been charged for a late-night burglary after the homeowner victim put up a fight.

At approximately 12:55 a.m. on Sept. 27, the Noblesville Police Department responded to a report of a burglary at 20657 Summit Road.

Once at the scene, the homeowner told police he found Peyton K. Tonning, 19, inside a vehicle parked in his garage.

The homeowner then told police Tonning brandished a handgun upon confrontation before fleeing on foot.

The homeowner allegedly chased Tonning approximately two blocks to the 5400 block of Kelly Anne Way. In the midst of confrontation, the homeowner told police he was able to wrestle the gun away from Tonning.

The homeowner told police Tonning fled again before he fired several shots from Tonning’s gun.

At approximately 1:19 a.m., NPD officers located Tonning in the 20400 block of Country Lake Boulevard. He was taken into custody without incident and reported no injuries from gunfire.

Tonning was questioned by investigators and later transported to the Hamilton County Jail and booked on preliminary charges of burglary, robbery and pointing a firearm.
