Former Butler University basketball star Andrew Smith died Tuesday morning. His wife, Samantha, took to Twitter to announce his passing.
“Andrew peacefully passed away in his sleep and in my arms as I told him I loved him this morning. Love you always, Smith.” she posted.
Smith, 25, grew up in Zionsville and attended Covenant Christian School, where he met his wife, who was also a student there. He was a key player on the Butler University men’s basketball team that made it to the national championship game two years in a row.
The Smiths recently bought their first home in Indianapolis before discovering that Andrew’s T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma had returned. Samantha provided updates on Andrew’s health at kickingcancerwiththesmiths.wordpress.com.
