Jo Ann Duke, 88, passed away peacefully in her sleep Feb. 29 at Zionsville Meadows Care Center.  She was born in Indianapolis on April 26, 1927, to Hazel M. (Messer) and James Junie Yager.

She received her Medical Records Librarian certificate from St. Louis and worked for Methodist Hospital before becoming a medical secretary for a psychiatric group in Indianapolis for more than 20 years.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Edwin L. Duke, also of Zionsville Meadows Care Center, four Children, Connie(David) Van Gompel of Solon, Ohio; Charles (Debbie) Duke of Westfield; Candi (Joe) Dziezanowski of Salisbury, N.H.; and Craig (Linda) Duke of Fort Wayne; 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren with one more due in April.

Jo Ann loved her family and enjoyed it most when they were all together for special occasions. She was a member of Carmel United Methodist Church for more than 50 years where she was a fourth grade Sunday School teacher, youth group leader and camp counselor. Most recently she became a member at Zionsville UMC near her care facility.  She and her husband lived in Bradenton, Fla., for 11 years after retirement where they enjoyed spending time in the warm air with new friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by a brother, James Yager.

A celebration of her life will take place at 11 a.m. March 4 at Zionsville United Methodist Church with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time. Rev. Perry Montgomery and Rev. Brian Cook will officiate. Arrangements by Indiana Funeral Care.
