With no yoga studios in the “heart of Boone County,” instructor Chris Yovanovich is opening Indiana Yoga Studio across from the Boone County Courthouse on Sept. 3.

“I’ve been teaching yoga for so long that I just decided to break away and take it where it needed it,” she said.

The Zionsville resident has created and taught 200- and 300-hour courses at Peace Through Yoga and will continue teacher training at the new studio, with the first 200-hour course beginning on Sept. 1.

A staff of 18 teachers will cover a full range of skills with specialized classes like yoga for stress, hot yoga and chair yoga.

Yovanovich said that her studio will be Vinyasa yoga phased.

“It’s really focused on yoga for wellness,” she said. “It’s therapeutic.”

Yovanovich began taking yoga after being diagnosed with fibromyalgia and not being able to find a medical solution. She tried yoga and began feeling better.

She recognized a need for yoga in central Boone County when one of her students, Jessica Miller, passed away. The studio is dedicated to her memory and a portion of training tuition will go to the United Methodist Children’s Home where Miller temporarily lived.

“I decided I want to bring yoga closer to the (Children’s) Home,” Yovanovich said.

The 3,000-square-foot building is a few blocks away and has a second story where Yovanovich hopes to hold additional yoga classes eventually.

“It’s been good,” she said. “Hopefully we’ll make the experience worth the drive.”
