Planning to major in political science, history and Spanish, Meadows graduated summa cum laude as an AP Scholar with Distinction and is the first FHS graduate to be named an IU Wells Scholar. According to a release from IU, freshman Wells Scholars are nominated by their high schools or the IU Office of Admissions and selected for having demonstrated exceptional qualities of character, leadership and distinction both in and out of the classroom.

“We are delighted to welcome the newest Wells Scholars who bring their intelligence, talents, creativity and leadership to IU,” stated Provost Professor of English Christoph Irmscher, a professor in the Wells Scholars Program. “The program’s current students and alumni help to realize the dreams Chancellor (Herman) Wells held for IU and its positive impact on our greater society.”

Meadows will hold the Robert E. Gates and the Sigma Nu Fraternity scholarships in the Wells Scholars Program. She was a captain of the three-time state champion speech team during her senior year at FHS, was a member of the school’s state champion We the People team that placed sixth in the nation and she placed second in Indiana in Congressional Debate and qualified for the National Speech and Debate Tournament three times. Last summer, Meadows was named the Outstanding Representative at Hoosier Girls State. She’s received additional awards for her musical abilities and was named the FHS Performing Arts Outstanding Senior for her accomplishments in speech, band and orchestra.
